After months of debate, I finally caved and watched The Angry Birds Movie for myself.

While I wasn't too particular about my Christmas presents this year (don't know if that's a sign of maturity or it just means that nothing really caught my eye), I did admit, "'The Angry Birds Movie' might be nice."

And sure enough, I found it among my loot, and the whole family watched it tonight. Mom was especially interested in seeing this.

And I must say, I was impressed.

The plot was a bit predictable, especially if you were already familiar with the game. You could see the Green Pigs's reason for coming to Bird Island a mile away, and anyone could tell when the giant slingshot was introduced that it was going to come in handy later.

Humor got a bit too crude in some places as well. There was a little too much potty humor, which doesn't tickle my funny bone; my mom even asked me what this movie was rated and was surprised that it was only PG.

But the dialogue was excellent, the voices were spot-on, and while I've grown weary of 3-D animation, some of those special effects were truly amazing. I'll bet the animators had a lot of fun (and a lot of headaches) animating the destruction of Pig City; it played almost exactly like the game, with the birds striking certain areas and letting gravity take over.

I also got a bit excited when I learned that one of the Angry Birds was named Terence, for obvious reasons.

But I have to say I liked Red, Chuck, and Bomb the best, especially Bomb. Those three were hilarious by themselves, and an absolute riot when they were together.

Even Leonard, the great Pig King himself, had his moments of awesomeness. His plan to steal the eggs, as diabolical as it was, was obviously well thought out; you just couldn't help but give him credit. And he had some great one-liners, such as, "Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!"

And the "hatchlings" were so adorable; Mom couldn't stop gushing over them.

Overall, the pacing could have been better and the humor could have been toned down a few notches, but otherwise I liked it very much, and so did my family.

I'd rank it 7 out of 10.

while I did crack up at the piss joke in this film, I do admit those jokes do get way to overused in animated films, ESPECIALLY when used in films of the Live action/Animated hybrid variety. (I'm looking at you Alvin and the Chipmunks, Smurfs, Yogi Bear, and others)

but this film, I will admit, was rather good, but lacked a diverse character portrayal like seen in films such as Zootopia, Kubo, Dory, or Moana, but I wasn't expecting a film like Angry Birds to be perfection, but it looks like they were trying to with the backstory or Red (which really could have been expanded upon greatfully)
