Gee, you would think people would know how to put a book away properly, in the appropriate section. But no, for some reason unknown to all but them, they leave a book lying haphazardly on top of all the others, or they stick the thing on an entirely different shelf.

You would also be surprised at the kind of stuff customers frequently leave in the book section. Toys, knickknacks, shoes, a purse...one person even left a tool behind, some kind of blade for a circular saw. (Don't worry, it was still in its case.)

Oh, well. Guess that's all part of the job.

At my city's library, we actually have signs on our shelves discouraging our customers from putting books back themselves. That's because, more often than not, they'll just put it in the wrong place- making it difficult for both staff and customers to locate.
