I'd say today marks the first day I've been entirely on my own, with no one else around at all. I get up whenever I want and eat whatever I fancy. Oh, I don't raid the kitchen, but I've definitely been eating well.
The dogs and cats are manageable for the most part, but I did have a slight mishap with Dixie today. She's the biggest and friskiest of the dogs, and when I took her for a walk this afternoon, she wriggled out of her collar and went after a smaller dog...twice. The first time, I was able to catch her, but the second time she actually pounced on the dog and got into a little scuffle. The owners had to intervene, too, and I was forced to literally haul Dixie away.
I had a fine time getting her back to the house, and another little dog that was on the loose came after us and Dixie would have gone after it as well had I not had her by the scruff. To make matters worse, that dog followed us and a neighbor had to help drive it away. I let Dixie know what she had done was unacceptable on no uncertain terms, and I shut her in the backyard (which has a good fence) until we both cooled down.
Later, I petted her and fed her a treat to let her know there were no hard feelings. But I plan to keep her here until my cousin gets back, and let her take it from there.
I don't think that other dog was too badly hurt (I hope) and I hope the owners aren't too miffed. I made sure to let my cousin know about this, and she told me Dixie doesn't usually behave that way. So I'll just play it safe and only let both Dixie and Chip into the backyard when they need to go outside.
Other than that, there's nothing else to report, and with luck, the worst is over.
On the plus side, I watched The Last Unicorn, and now I'm about to watch Legend. I had a great dinner, too, and I even took my first shower here. It felt really odd bathing in someone else's house, but I feel much better for having bathed, especially since tomorrow is Sunday and I intend to go to church, even if I am just a visitor. Good thing there's a church nearby, and one of the neighbors is taking me.
