O God,
Where have you been?
Why did you leave me,
When I needed you most?
Do you not truly care?
You promised
You would never forsake me
Where did you go?
Did you not hear me,
When my heart cried out to you?
Was your ear deaf?
Are you void of feeling?
Do you not see these tears on my face?
Oh, why did you leave me?
Why did you leave?

My child,
Where have you been?
Why did you leave me?
Do you not know
How much I truly care?
I promised
I would never forsake you
I was always right there
I heard you,
When you cried out in your anguish
My ear heard every word
My heart broke for you
I shed tears along with you
I never left you
Rather, you left me
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

~ St. John 14:27 (KJV)

It's sad, but it's true. People are always wondering where God is, and how He can allow so much bad to come about. They think: "If God really loved me, He wouldn't have let this happen to me in the first place. He probably doesn't even care." God does indeed care, far much more than we realize. Do you honestly think He takes pleasure in our suffering? I'm sure your parents weren't always there when you got hurt; did that mean they didn't love you?

Furthermore, if God prevented every single bad thing from happening, we wouldn't learn and grow much, would we? Our lives would have no real meaning, would they?

I've had times like this. I'm grateful He is understanding and is always there to catch me when I run back. (I don't have to run back so often now- I don't leave. It's been a long time learning, but He has been patient throughout.) Thanks for sharing- you don't know how many lives this may have touched.

Praise the Lord you wrote this! People sit and wonder why God left them, but really they left Him. God is always with us, but we can leave Him by stiff arming Him and turning a deaf ear to His instructions, His Holy Word, the Bible.

This one is a dose of reality, but in a positive way. It can switch around perspectives and remind us that we do have to let God in :)

I love this one. It shakes up a lot of feelings. How many times don't people feel like everything bad is happening to them? But, as we've learned, everything taken from you will come back tenfold. We get so many blessings for our suffering, most we cannot see, but they're poured over us.

Thank you for a beautiful, meeningful poem, which makes you think

When people turn away from God, they become blind to his presence. The Lord morphs us into the people He wants us to be, even if it means...anguish and suffering.

Also, I felt completely blessed today when I went early to the DMV and took my written Class C test and PASSED! That was something I was scared of for weeks prior and with just one prayer for His help, he answered when I turned in that test. After that when I waited out to get picked up, a fellow Christian who was passing out prayer, Psalm pamphlets out called me over and gave me one. When he saw my silver cross necklace, he leaped into the air with joy. God answered my prayers today and He was right beside me the entire time. I know, for sure, that the Lord will never leave us. God Bless to all!

I know. I cannot even imagine His suffering. The thought of Him in unbearable agony makes me ill to the stomach. He went through all of it just so we all can be safe and secured under His name.

They say that just one tiny, itsy-bitsy glimpse of Jesus's pain and suffering are enough to make you sicken and recoil.

Oh yes. It does make me feel ill and yet, it's almost impossible to imagine. Because of that, we all belong to Him. Forever more. Even the non believers.

Well, written. nice thoughts. similar concept to the "footprints in the sand' poem which I love.

I have come to the point where I count the most difficult and painful challenges as the greatest blessings. the times when he seems not to listen are the times when he trusts us enough to let us try it on our own for a time so we can grow and get stronger and better and wiser. all parents have to do that when a child is trying something new or hard. It's hard to watch them suffer, but wonderful when they become independent and come back still loving us, understanding that our willingness to watch them suffer helped them grow. it takes tremendous strength to let a beloved child suffer for their learning when the child is not grateful for the suffering. He has the strength, but I try, by being grateful for the suffering, not to ask that of him.

thanks for sharing. It's always Good to find something wise and spiritual to respond to here.

That was absolutely gorgeous, Mel. VERY well-written. And, you know, it's something I've considered many, many times- God never forsakes us, it's us who forsake Him. In our ignorance, we are too caught up in our emotions to see and hear Him.

Yep, so true. There was a time when I thought even God didn't care about me, or what happened to me.

Looking back on it, I go: "What was I thinking?"
