May We Always Remember

This is actually an old piece that I discovered recently, and I decided it was still good enough to scan, color, and post. Here, you see my characters Thomas and Aureole paying their respects to those who died in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

At that time, I was in junior high, and I first heard about the awful tragedy on the car radio while my dad was driving me to school. At first, I didn't give much thought to it. But then my teachers started talking about it in all of my classes, and the kids talked about it as well. Then I saw a news report on the television in the school library. Finally, I came home, and the same story was on practically every single channel on TV. That was when I realized this was far, far more serious than I thought.

In the days that followed, I was just plain scared, and once I actually broke down in class and started crying because I was so frightened and upset. No one made fun of me. In fact, some of my classmates felt sorry for me, and did their best to try to calm me down.

Eventually I recovered completely, and now I'm not so afraid anymore. But I am still sorry that so many people had died in such a horrific manner, and all in the space of one day.

I just can't comprehend how the loved ones of those victims must have felt that terrible day. I can't even begin to imagine how I myself would feel if I lost someone I loved in those attacks.

This picture here is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful and emotional pictures I have ever created. Therefore, I flat-out refuse to accept any nasty comments concerning this. And I will NOT allow any theft or manipulation of this piece whatsoever.
